Baptism Ministry
Please contact the Parish Office at (562) 431-0721.
Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation. It’s the “doorway” to all the other Sacraments and so is an essential and important celebration for the whole family to welcome their loved one in becoming a member of the eternal family of God as Jesus urged: “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matt 28:19.
Infant Baptism:
For infants, some basic requirements for baptism are: First, parents should be active members of the Catholic Church. Second, parents must choose godparents for their child. At least one of the godparents must be a practicing Catholic who has received all of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist). You may only have one godmother and one godfather per child being baptized. Third, parents and godparents are required to attend one class before baptism. Registration is required before attending. If godparents do not live in the area, they may take a class at their nearby parish and bring a letter of verification.
- Our Infant Baptism preparation classes are held once a month on a Tuesday night from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in our Parish Hall.
- Baptisms are generally celebrated on the first Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m. in our Church.
- An application for baptism and information packet are available from the Parish Office.
Baptism of Children Ages 7 and Older
Our community welcomes families with unbaptized children from ages 7 and older desiring initiation into the Catholic Church. It involves a preparation process appropriate for the child to understand and takes place in coordination with the child’s participation in the faith formation program. This process offers sacrament preparation including opportunities for children to learn about the Christian way of life and our Catholic faith while preparing for the Rite of Christian Initiation during the Easter season. For more information please contact Faith Formation at (562) 431-0721 X16.
Adult Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism for Adults is celebrated at the Easter Vigil each year. Adult who wished to be baptized and received fully into the Catholic Church go through a formation process called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA).
Adults who are already baptized are invited to prepare to be received into full communion in the Catholic Church, also go through the RCIA program. For more information please see RCIA under Faith Formation or contact the Parish Office at (562) 431-0721.
