Deacon Steve Byars and his wife, Pamela,  are joining us at St. Anne’s. Steve was ordained in 2015 and immediately assigned to Sts Simon & Jude Parish in Huntington Beach but was at St. Mary’s by the Sea Parish, also in Huntington Beach, for many years including those in formation. Deacon Steve has a Ph.D. in Religious Ethics and Social Justice and has taught for eighteen years at the USC Marshall School of Business. Before that, he was an administrator in the Writing Center at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, & Sciences. He anticipates retiring from his faculty position this coming August and will miss the campus but not the commute.

Pamela taught pre-K for several years in different settings. Her longest stints were at the Irvine Child Development Center and Good Shepherd Lutheran Preschool, also in Irvine. She and Deacon Steve have two adult sons, one living in Huntington Beach and the other in Long Beach.

They both are looking forward to meeting and serving the parishioners and their families at this beautiful parish. St Anne’s and St Mary’s by the Sea share many similarities, including proximity to the beach and number of parishioners. As they have warm memories of their time at St Mary’s by the Sea, they are happily anticipating serving the community of God here at St Anne’s.
